Saqib Saleem on Citadel: Honey Bunny controversy

When asked about the Citadel: Honey Bunny controversy, Saqib Saleem said, “I saw the trailer. I feel like when the trailer came out, I realized that there is a certain narrative the filmmakers and everybody don’t want to show the impact of my character in the trailer. I didn’t want to be detrimental to that narrative by going out or talking to anyone. And, I felt that it makes sense to talk to the media or anyone only when your work is out.”

He added, “Usually, we do it beforehand, but I wanted to change that. I wanted to do it later. I realized that if they didn’t want to show the impact of my character, I also said, ‘Let the show come out first, then we’ll talk.’ And today, after the show has come out, we are sitting and chatting about it because it’s very important for people. You can ask me better questions only when you have seen something. If you haven’t seen it, it will be a very awkward interview, and I didn’t want to put myself in that space. I wanted people to talk about my work. So now that the work is out, the conversation is happening.”

Saqib Saleem on reacting to controversies

Talking about reacting to such news about having issues with producers, Saqib said, “Reacting and then taking it further—why should it matter if you react to something? What comes out of it? What someone says? Which clip is edited, shown, or not shown? I just feel that when people talk about someone, especially about me, the conversations that needed to happen between us have already taken place. I don’t think there’s any point in going out and explaining what we discussed.”

Continuing the actor said, “When you’re in any collaborative space—as actors, artists, or anyone in this business—we all have to make a lot of choices, right? And sometimes, not all choices align with your perspective. But does that mean you’re upset? There’s no sense in turning a simple difference of opinion into such a big deal. So I feel like we should only talk when there’s work. And if something needs to be clarified for the media’s perception, then we’ll address it when the work comes up, and things will become clear at that point.”
